Vintage
Thanks to this balance, it can be enjoyed right now, but its tension, vigour, cleanliness and precision promise to reveal even greater complexity in the years to come. More than any other vintage that preceded it, and those that followed, 2021 - together with 2016 - represents the “great vintage” of Brunello of the decade.
For Cerbaiona, 2021 has a meaning all its own. It is, in fact, the first Brunello produced with grapes from the vineyards replanted in 2017, after careful selection of clones and rootstocks and meticulous preparation of the soil prior to planting. One hectare of vineyard has been added to the three already existing, in the highest and steepest part of the hill; the grapes from this new plot have proved to be of excellent quality. All the new vineyards are trained using the alberello method, a form of cultivation that requires precision work.
In 2021, Cerbaiona also vinified in its new, custom-built winery, where a close-knit team of oenologists works. Here, the work is carried out meticulously, using state-of-the-art equipment and a well-equipped in-house laboratory: a veritable wine workshop. It is worth noting that the 2021 Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino, currently the best produced by Cerbaiona, marks forty years of production of the label, which was inaugurated with the 1981 Brunello.
